roaml Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 9, 2026
Tyler Luedtke ("we," "us," or "our") operates the roaml mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use roaml, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using roaml, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
| Category | Data | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Phone number, display name, username, optional email address, optional bio, optional avatar photo. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from that provider. | Authentication, your public profile, and enabling friend discovery via contacts |
| SMS verification | Phone number you enter during sign-up or sign-in | Sending a one-time verification code (OTP) to confirm your identity. You opt in by entering your number and tapping "Send Code." Reply STOP to any roaml message to opt out of further SMS. |
| Sign in with Apple / Google | Name, email address, and a unique account identifier provided by Apple or Google, if you choose one of these sign-in options instead of phone number | Authenticating your account without requiring a phone number |
| Location | Approximate device location. Collected in the foreground at check-in time. If you enable Dwell Reminders in Settings, location is also monitored in the background to detect when you have been near a venue for approximately 30 minutes. | Verifying you are near a venue when you check in, showing distance to nearby venues on the map, and (if Dwell Reminders are enabled) sending a local reminder notification to log your visit |
| Check-in history | Venue name, category, timestamp, optional star rating, optional note, optional vibe tags | Core social feature — displayed in your feed and profile |
| Want-to-go list | Saved venue names | Your personal wishlist — kept private and never shared with other users |
| Social graph | Follow relationships and follow requests | Powering your social feed and follower/following counts |
| Reactions | Emoji reactions to other users' check-ins | Social engagement features |
| Push notifications | Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token | Delivering push notifications to your device |
| Purchases | Subscription status, managed via RevenueCat | Unlocking and gating premium features |
What we do not collect: roaml never stores your precise GPS coordinates. Location is used transiently, on your device, only to verify proximity to a venue at the moment of check-in — only the resolved venue name and category are saved to our database. Dwell Reminder processing also happens entirely on-device; no location data is transmitted to our servers.
How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account and public profile
- To verify your identity during sign-up and sign-in — via SMS one-time passcode, Sign in with Apple, or Google Sign-In
- To operate core app features: check-ins, feed, want-to-go list, follows, and reactions
- To verify proximity to a venue when you check in and to show distances on the map
- To deliver local Dwell Reminder notifications on your device (if you enable this feature)
- To enable friend discovery — matching your phone number against contacts of other roaml users who have granted Contacts permission, so friends can find each other on the platform
- To send push notifications related to app activity (e.g., new followers, reactions)
- To manage and validate premium subscription access
- To maintain the security and reliability of the App
SMS Messaging
roaml sends SMS messages solely for account verification (one-time passcodes). You opt in by entering your phone number in the app and requesting a code. No marketing or promotional messages are sent via SMS.
- To stop receiving SMS: reply STOP to any roaml text message. You will receive one confirmation message and no further messages will be sent.
- For help: reply HELP or email hello@roaml.app.
- Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency depends on sign-in activity.
Third-Party Services
roaml relies on the following third-party services to operate. Each processes a limited set of data as described above and is governed by its own privacy policy:
| Service | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, real-time sync, and file storage (avatars) | supabase.com/privacy |
| RevenueCat | In-app subscription management | revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Mapbox | Interactive map and venue search | mapbox.com/legal/privacy |
| Google (Places API & Sign-In) | Venue photos, and optional authentication via Google Sign-In | policies.google.com/privacy |
| Twilio | SMS delivery for one-time verification codes. Twilio receives your phone number solely to transmit the OTP message. | twilio.com/en-us/legal/privacy |
| Apple (APNs / Sign In with Apple) | Push notification delivery and Apple ID-based authentication | apple.com/legal/privacy |
Data Retention
We retain your account and activity data for as long as your account remains active, so that we can provide the App's core features. If you delete your account, your data is permanently and immediately removed as described below — we do not keep backups of deleted account data beyond what is required for short-term database backup rotation, which is automatically purged on a routine schedule.
Your Rights
You can delete your account and all associated data directly within the App:
Profile → Settings → Delete Account (at the bottom of the Settings sheet, below Sign Out)
When you delete your account, we permanently remove: your phone number, check-ins, want-to-go list, follows and follow requests, reactions, notifications and notification preferences, push token, taste profile, and profile information. Your avatar is deleted from storage and your authentication record (including any stored phone number) is deleted; database constraints automatically remove all associated rows.
You may also contact us at hello@roaml.app to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data.
Children's Privacy
roaml is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@roaml.app and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and we will update the "Last updated" date above. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
